Our team has been hard at work creating a visually captivating game environment, and this week we focused on texturing our Tower and our character that Ali has modelled, as well as changing how our camera works.

To bring the tower to life, we applied high-resolution textures to its exterior surfaces. These textures have been carefully designed to convey a sense of age, mystery, and grandeur. This attention to detail will create a truly immersive experience for players as they approach the tower. We are also slowly texturing our clutter - but this is less of a priority at the moment. In addition to the tower, we also focused on enhancing the player's visual representation. We wanted to ensure that the player's avatar seamlessly blended into the game world, so Ali created and applied player textures. These textures were designed to match the visual style of the environment while still allowing the player character to stand out, ergo, we stuck with our Y2K visuals for our character. Furthermore, we implemented a set of player animations to add more realism and fluidity to the player's movements. We created animations for jogging and idle an state using Mixamo. The idle animation depicts the player character in a natural, relaxed stance, adding life to moments of inactivity. Eventually, we’ll add a running animation when the implement a sprint function. Below we can see a scene that Ali rendered and character models.

This leads us into Version 0.0.14. This version has our character animations and is fully textured. It also has a new type of camera. In the revised camera system, we shifted the focus to directional travel. The player now controls movement primarily with the W key, which allows them to move forward in the direction they are facing and we are utilising the mouse for directional input. Instead of rotating the camera, the mouse movement now directly determines the direction in which the player moves. Moving the mouse to the left or right will cause the player character to turn and face the corresponding direction. By shifting the focus to directional travel and utilizing the mouse for intuitive input, we have streamlined the controls and, hopefully, will have improved the player's overall experience. This new camera system allows for more fluid and natural animations and movement, making it easier for players to navigate the game world and engage with the environment.

All we need to add now is lighting and a main menu screen (in theory)!
