This week, in preparation for SOTSEF, we successfully added our ‘Speech Door’ to our main demo space. This area is sort of like a vertical slice; it showcases the unique features and gameplay mechanics of our game, all in a small area using simple white-box elements. We wanted to make sure that ALL visitors to the science fair - young or old, inexperienced to experienced gamers - could have a taste of the immersive world we’re looking to create. From my own previous, personal encounters, I’ve found that younger children in particular find it much eaiser to use a controller. As the majority of attendees are expected to be children, we have also added controller inputs. I also think this might actually encourage gameplay from all ages. Players don’t have to sit closely with a laptop and keyboard in front of them… instead, they can stay standing and simply pick up the wireless controller. It feels much more inviting and intuitive.

To add that all important finishing touch, we included a "Thanks for Playing" sign within the demo space, complete with our contact information. We hope this sign serves as a warm gesture of appreciation to the players who take the time to experience our game. It's a small but meaningful detail that (hopefully) demonstrates our team's gratitude for the support and feedback we receive from players.

V 0.0.9 (13/03):

Developed in separate project file, C# code recognises what a player is saying

C# script then opens a door with an audio listener attached when the correct phrase is recognised ( / around ‘Y axis’; needs to be around a point at edge ?)

2 * posters - “TV = key”, “key = voice/microphone”
